IberLAND. Beyond Property: Law and Land in the Iberian World, 1510–1850

IberLAND is a five-year research project funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant and hosted at Leibniz University Hannover (Germany). It explores the history of land tenure in a long-term and global perspective by focusing on the territories of the former Portuguese and Spanish empires in what has recently been labelled the Iberian world.

Roger Lee de Jesus and Marlen D. Palma Silva, postdoctoral researchers of the project, participated in the XLIV Conference of the Portuguese Association of Economic and Social History (APHES), held at the University of Évora (Portugal) on November 14 and 15, 2025.
The project IberLAND participated in ‘Die Nacht, die Wissen schafft’ (The Night That Creates Knowledge) at the Leibniz Universität Hannover on November 9, 2025.
Manuel Bastias Saavedra presented the project’s new book - Ownership Regimes in the Iberian World (1500-1850) (Brill, 2025), at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FCSH) of the New University of Lisbon (NOVA), on September 18th, 2025.
Part of the IberLAND team was reunited in Coimbra for the 7th biennial conference of the European Rural History Organisation (EURHO).
